Black-throated Finch Management options
Setting priorities for managing and monitoring Black-throated Finches and other threatened Finches in the Mitchell River Catchment
Crimson Finch Survey and Ranger Training
The project trained Indigenous rangers of Kowanyama to help them to manage and monitor habitat and numbers of the Endangered White-bellied Crimson Finch (WBCF). The training included bird recognition, understanding habitat needs in relation to the impacts of fire, livestock, pigs, weeds and management effort, plus outcome monitoring.

Koster’s curse in community hands
The Mitchell River Watershed Management Group, in partnership with Mareeba Shire Council and Biosecurity Queensland, will lead the long-term effort to control, monitor, and reduce Koster’s Curse in the Julatten area.

Brooklyn Station gets on front foot with fire management regime
Australian Wildlife Conservancy protects this refuge and its wildlife through a number of land management and science strategies including fire management, feral herbivore and weed control, feral cat and fox control, and in the field science programs.
Mitchell Water Plan due for Renewal
The Mitchell Water Plan (2007) is due to expire on 31 August 2018. The time is right for new perspectives on how water in the catchment is managed.

Arriga Plains Water and Soil Quality program gets underway
Mitchell River has received a community grant from Northern Gulf to undertake a collection of water and soil quality in the Arriga Plains. Progress has started with important early meetings with producers.
